FW26/27: THE VENUE

Azerbaijan State Academic Philharmonic Hall.

Baku Fashion Week announces that the upcoming Fall/Winter 2026/27 season will be held at one of the city’s most iconic cultural landmarks — the Azerbaijan State Academic Philharmonic Hall.

Constructed between 1910 and 1912 as the “Summer Assembly of Public Meetings,” the building quickly became a center of social and cultural life in Baku. Its exterior is designed in the Italian Renaissance style, while the interiors reflect the elegance of German Rococo, creating a refined and richly decorative atmosphere. The overall concept was inspired by the architectural language of the Monte Carlo Casino complex, particularly the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, which is evident in its ornate detailing and grand spatial composition. Following the establishment of Soviet power in the 1920s, it evolved into a key venue for musical gatherings, hosting ensembles and orchestras.

In 1936, by decision of the Council of People’s Commissars of the Azerbaijan SSR, the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic was officially established in this very building. A year later, it was named after the prominent Azerbaijani composer Muslim Magomayev.

Over the decades, the Philharmonic has welcomed some of the most distinguished figures in Azerbaijani music, including Khan Shushinski, Shovkat Alakbarova, Niyazi, and Sara Gadimova, as well as numerous performers from across the former USSR and beyond. After undergoing extensive reconstruction from 1996 to 2004, the venue reopened with a grand ceremony attended by President Ilham Aliyev and world-renowned cellist Mstislav Rostropovich.

The venue is surrounded by the historic Philharmonic Garden — one of the oldest green spaces in the city, established in the early 1860s near the walls of the Old City (Icherisheher). Originally known as the Governor’s Garden, it was also called the Mikhailovsky Garden, named in honor of the Governor of the Caucasus, Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolaevich, brother of Emperor Alexander II.

Set between the historic garden and the Old City, the venue offers a unique dialogue between past and present, making it an exceptional location for Baku Fashion Week. From May 1 to May 3, 2026, the Fall/Winter 2026/27 season will transform this landmark space into a dynamic platform for fashion.
